Nantou Shallow Brick Pottery Bowl

TW-4-05-26-4-B-0290

This pottery bowl was made in Nantou, Taiwan during the Japanese colonial period (1895-1945), using brick pottery. They are commonly known as “Nantou bowls” and are mainly used in the Nantou region. These bowls were formed by hand-pulled clay and have a shallow, flat-round shape, with their widest part at the shoulder and a raised circular edge. Typically, Nantou bowls are left undecorated, preserving the natural color of the clay and the surface. They are simple and practical in design.
