南投褐釉茶葉罐
Nantou Brown Glazed Tea Jar
TW-4-05-27-4-B-0247
This tea jar was made made of pottery in Nantou during 1895-1945. It was formed by hand-pulling and has a wide, round belly for holding tea leaves and a narrow neck for easy sealing to prevent air from entering and avoid the tea leaves from getting damp. It is decorated with brown glaze.
In early storage utensils, pottery jars were relatively small and mainly used to hold everyday items with small amounts. The tea jar is a pottery jar with a specific purpose, and therefore has a specific design that reflects the lifestyle of our ancestors.
