Hand-Painted Rouge-Red Plum-and-Orchid-Pattern Steamer

TW-7-00-22-0-B-0235

The production date of this steamer is unknown, but it is believed to be a product of Beitou or Yingge ceramics industry. The material is pottery, with a pink glaze applied to the base color. The pattern is a plum and orchid pattern, with a hand-painted white plum pattern on the body of the pot and the inscription “Five blessings bloom with the plum” and a painted orchid on the lid with the inscription “Fragrance of the King.” The plum and orchid symbolize the pride and fragrance of a gentleman. The steamer has an elegant and warm overall appearance. It is a specialized cooking tool for steaming food, with a flat and round shape and two ear-shaped handles for easy handling. Steam is produced through a funnel-shaped structure inside the pot, allowing water vapor to overflow through the vent and cook the food while retaining its freshness. It is often used in Yunnan cuisine, and the Kinmen Ceramic Factory also produces Kinmen steamers.
