Brown Glazed Striped Brick Pottery Jar
TW-4-00-09-4-B-0242
This jar was made of brick pottery during 1895-1945. The widest part of the jar is the shoulder, with a narrow mouth. The body is coated with brown glaze, with straight stripes decorating the upper half and no decoration on the lower half.
Pottery jars have many uses, including storing water, wine, rice, and other foods. They can also be used to make pickled foods, as well as brewing soy sauce and wine. Pottery jars were the most commonly used storage containers in early folk life and can still be seen in the corners of rural houses throughout Taiwan today, serving as an indispensable part of the rural image.
