Yingge Hand-Painted Grape-Pattern Bowl
TW-5-01-00-0-B-0034
This bowl was produced in Yingge during 1945-1964 and is made of pottery. It features a hand-painted grape pattern in brown glaze with additional rouge and green glazes for the leaves and vines. The rim of the bowl is adorned with a light blue edge, and the back of the bowl is coated with a light blue glaze with chrysanthemum patterns added by press-mold.
The grape pattern was a common design in early Taiwanese society and symbolizes vigorous vitality with its image of grape clusters hanging heavily from the vines. The fact that the grapes come from a single root and produce many fruits also represents the pursuit of “many children and grandchildren” by the ancient people, signifying the prosperity of offspring and the passing down of traditions from generation to generation.
