Yingge Double-Phoenix-Double-Happiness-Pattern Plate

The production date of this plate is estimated to be during 1945-1964 and it was made in Yingge with pottery as the material. The plate is created using transfer printing technique with underglaze blue double phoenix pattern. The phoenix is an auspicious bird, and the peony between the two phoenixes is called “Double Phoenix Playing with Peony,” which is a symbol of both auspiciousness and wealth, fully expressing the joyful meaning of good fortune. The edge of the plate is decorated with pressed banana leaf pattern.

The Double Dragon and Phoenix Plate with Double Happiness Pattern was used in banquets and feast during the early period of Taiwan. With dragon, phoenix, double happiness, and double longevity patterns, it is clear that it is used for festive occasions and can be used to hold sacrificial offerings.
