Yingge Yellow Glazed Lard Jar
TW-4-01-18-0-B-0258
This lard jar was made of pottery in Yingge during 1895-1945. It was formed by hand-pulling and has a wide mouth with an outwardly folded rim, a convex rounded belly, and a lid with a hat-like shape to prevent mosquitoes and dust from entering.
Life in earlier times was not as convenient as it is now, and obtaining oil was relatively expensive. Therefore, many families would make and store their own lard, and the lard jar became a necessary container in every household. The design also emphasized hygiene and reflects the lifestyle of our ancestors.
